The home team settled impressively as Alex Gardiner, Jonathan Lynam, Sam McCartan, John Heslin, and Lorcan Dolan all registered scores.

Darren Gallagher, though, was influential for Longford, who thundered into the game

By the time the interval rolled around Longford led by 0-8 to 0-7.

A productive Longford burst yielded six points in a row, including splendid efforts from Keelin McGann and Patrick Fox.

Westmeath were reduced to 14 men when David Lynch was sent off with seven minutes remaining and Longford closed out the game effectively.

Fermanagh enjoyed an excellent 3-15 to 3-9 win over Laois at Brewster Park.

An exciting encounter throughout, Fermanagh led by 2-6 to 1-3 at half-time following goals from Ciaran Corrigan and Seán Quigley.

Evan O'Caroll had netted an early goal for Laois, but Fermanagh replied in impresive fashion to lead by six at the turnaround.

After the restart Mark Barry struck a major for Laois to reduce the deficit to three points.

Fermanagh, though, remained composed as Darragh McGurn scored a 48th minute goal.

Barry contributed his second goal of the game in the closing stages for Laois, but Fermanagh secured the spoils.
