Paddy McDermott's last gasp goal ensured Maynooth University defeated St Mary's 2-6 to 0-10 at Davitt Park, Belfast.

Cian McConville was effective for Mary's, who accumulated a 0-9 to 0-4 advantage.

When the match recommenced Maynooth, with former Wexford boss Davy Burke in charge, struck a goal courtesy of Shane O'Sullivan.

In the closing stages Mary's were one point ahead, but O'Sullivan turned provider for McDermott, who netted.

Ulster University proved too strong for MTU Cork in Abbotstown, emerging 2-11 to 0-8 victors.

Ahead 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time, Ulster University pulled clear in the second half as Niall Loughlin and Ryan Jones mined goals for a talented outfit.

Letterkenny IT, managed by Maxi Curran, caused a significant shock in Convoy on Tuesday evening, defeating UCD by 0-7 to 0-6.

A tight and tense match was decided by Joel Bradley-Walsh's late point which earned Letterkenny IT a place at the quarter-final stage.

After claiming a mark Bradley-Walsh stayed cool and composed under pressure to rifling over the winning point. It was Bradley-Walsh's fourth point of the game.

Brian McLoughlin had a last gasp opportunity to level deep into stoppage time, but Letterkenny IT, with Conor O'Donnell impressing, prevailed.

Conor Turbitt was the star of the show as Queens University edged out IT Carlow 0-17 to 0-16 following a thriller.

Turbitt's eight point haul was critical as Queens bounced back following a loss against NUIG.

IT Carlow led at half-time by 0-9 to 0-8, but Queens, prompted by Turbitt and a splendid score from Patrick Brooks, responded.

It remained interesting until the end, but a determined Queens outfit reached the last eight of the competition.
