Paul Galvin has stepped down as manager of the Wexford senior football team.

Wexford GAA has also confirmed that Shane Roche will act as interim boss for the upcoming Allianz Football League and Leinster Championship campaigns.

In a joint statement released on Tuesday evening former Kerry star Galvin confirmed his decision.

"Due to the Covid 19 outbreak in Dublin my family has now moved back to the west of Ireland," Galvin remarked.

"I am stepping away from my role with Wexford due to the new time and travel commitments involved.

"My business has also undergone significant growth in the past few months and needs attention."

Roche will now take charge for the remainder of 2020.

"Shane has been heavily involved as part of Paul's backroom team during his tenure and his considerable experience as an inter-county player and coach at schools, club, and inter-county level will help build on the foundations laid by Paul earlier this season," the Wexford GAA statement said.

Wexford face Wicklow in the first round of the Leinster Championship.
