Connacht FBD League Quarter-Final

MAYO 2-13 LEITRIM 2-13

Mayo win 4-1 on penalties

There was no shortage of drama at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada as Mayo eventually secured victory against a spirited Leitrim.

James Horan's return as Mayo manager proved to be an eventful encounter as Leitrim staged a passionate rally to force a penalty shoot-out.

But Mayo stayed cool as Jason Doherty, Fergal Boland, Brian Reape, and Evan Regan all converted to set up an interesting semi-final tussle against Galway at Tuam Stadium next weekend.

Mayo bagged two goals during a lively first half with Horan's team leading 2-9 to 0-8 at the break.

Only four minutes had elapsed when Brian Reape rattled the Leitrim net as the Green and Red settled quickly.

Three minutes later Fergal Boland added a second Mayo major as the visiting team edged 2-1 to 0-3 ahead.

Leitrim trailed by seven at the turnaround, but goals from Evan Sweeney and Ryan O'Rourke brought them back into contention and they levelled at the death.

Mayo, though, were more clinical in the shoot-out and a trip to Tuam now beckons.
