Ruairi Harkin netted a goal from a late penalty as Colmcille finished with a real flourish at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

A tight and tense encounter in the midlands was decided by a brilliant late burst from Colmcille, who claimed a first Longford title in 14 years.

At the interval the teams were deadlocked, 0-4 each, and it remained similarly hard fought after the restart.

St Columba’s edged 0-8 to 0-6 ahead in the closing stages following a couple of excellent long range frees from David McGivney.

Despite falling behind Colmcille responded with Harkin remaining cool and composed to land the decisive score.
