Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC Final
MOHILL 2-10 ST MARY’S KILTOGHERT 0-14
Mohill avenged their defeat in last year’s Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC Final by turning the tables on their conquerors, St. Mary’s, Kiltoghert, in today’s decider.
A goal in each half proved vital for the winners, who showed good composure in the closing minutes to hit two late points through star-men Ronan Kennedy and Keith Beirne to claim a hard-fought victory.
After an evenly-contested first quarter it looked like reigning champions St. Mary’s were finding their stride when they moved three points ahead courtesy of accurate free-taker, Paul Keaney.
But Mohill reeled them back in when Jordan Reynolds scored their first goal on 23 minutes after flicking Beirne’s pass to the net.
It was St Mary’s who finished the half the stronger though as points from Gavin Reynolds, Nicholas McWeeney, and Ben Guckian gave them a 0-8 to 1-3 at the interval.
It was nip and tuck again in the third quarter but then Mohill landed another heavy blow with their second goal through Ronan Kennedy.
St. Mary’s came roaring back again in what was a see-saw match as points from James McGraile, Daire Farrell and Keaney drew them level by the 56th minute.
But when cool heads were required it was Mohill who prevailed as Kennedy and Beirne ladned those two late points to seal a fine win.
