The result of the first round of the Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Championship was undoubtedly Meath’s 11-point victory over Dublin.

It was all square at 0-4 apiece after an evenly contested first-half, but Meath were much the better team after the break.

An Aaron Murphy goal just before the water-break gave the Royals an irresistible momentum, and with captain Eoghan Frayne kicking four points in the final quarter they won the match in some style.

Wicklow pulled off an eye-catching victory of their own when kicking four goals against Longford.

Eoin Doyle was the main man for the winners, kicking 1-7 in the first half alone to help his team into an eight-point lead at the break.

Longford battled hard in the second-half but a brace of goals by Wicklow’s Joe Prendergast in the space of a couple of minutes kept a decent buffer on the scoreboard.

Louth, meanwhile, enjoyed a convincing six-point victory over Wexford.

Electric Ireland Ulster Minor Football Championship

MONAGHAN 1-8 CAVAN 1-7

Reigning champions Monaghan are through to the Electric Ireland Ulster Minor Football Championship quarter-finals, but that didn’t look a likely outcome for much of this match.

In fact, the Farney County didn’t lead until Stephen Mooney popped up with an injury-time goal that sealed the win and broke Cavan hearts.

Liam Fay scored Cavan’s first-half goal and they seemed in control at the break when they led by 1-5 to 0-2.

But Man of the Match Mooney kept his team in the game with some accurate shooting in the second-half, and then struck for that dramatic winning goal.
