EirGrid Ulster U-20 Football Championship Quarter-Finals

Down 2-9 Tyrone 1-8

Derry 3-12 Fermanagh 0-8

Monaghan 1-11 Cavan 0-13

Donegal 0-15 Antrim 0-15 (aet) Donegal win 5-4 on penalties.

Reigning All-Ireland champions Tyrone were dethroned by Down this evening in the EirGrid Ulster U-20 Football Championship quarter-finals.

It was a stunning triumph for Down considering Tyrone fielded almost half of last year’s All-Ireland winning team.

Tenacious in defence and enterprising on the counter-attack, the Mourne County executed their game-plan perfectly.

There was little to choose between the teams in the opening quarter but then Down struck for the game’s first goal after 18 minutes when the lively Oisín Savage finished crisply.

They hit their second goal of the match three minutes before the break through Jason Morgan and led at half-time by 2-4 to 0-4.

Tyrone pressed hard in the second-half but Down were able to do enough on the counter-attack to keep them at arm’s length and complete a fine victory.

Stephen Mooney starred for Monaghan as they came from behind to beat Cavan.

The full-forward scored 1-4 including a brace late on as the Farney County scored four unanswered points to turn a three point deficit into a one-point win.

Donegal held their nerve to beat Antrim 5-4 on penalties after an absorbing tussle that finished 0-9 apiece after normal time and 0-15 apiece after extra-time.

Derry proved too strong for Fermanagh as they swept to a 13-point victory.

Monaghan will play Down and Derry will play Donegal in the semi-finals.
