Despite failing to score in the first 17 minutes Cork went in 1-3 to 0-5 ahead at the interval as Paul Kerrigan grabbed an opportunistic first half goal.
Mark Collins rifled over two opening period points for Peadar Healy’s team, but Galway responded well after the restart.

Cork struck five of the next seven scores with John O’Rourke and the excellent O’Neill as the teams were deadlocked with eight minutes remaining.
