Allianz Football League Division Three

CARLOW 1-10 LOUTH 0-12

LAOIS 0-14 LONGFORD 0-12

DOWN 2-12 OFFALY 0-10

Sligo were relegated following a fifth straight loss against Westmeath at Cooloney.

It was a disappointing afternoon for the Connacht county, who lost out by 3-12 to 1-10 against the promising chasing Westmeath.

At the interval the visitors led by 0-9 to 0-7 with John Heslin, Ger Egan (penalty), and Noel O'Reilly bagging goals for Jack Cooney's team after the restart.

Adrian Marren replied with a consolation goal for Sligo, who will play in Division Four next year.

Two second-half goals from substitute Cory Quinn gave Down a convincing victory over Offaly, which sees the Mourne men open up a two-point lead at the top of the Division Three table.

Down were two points clear at the interval, but they powered on to a big win as Offaly succumbed to their attacking prowess.

Darren O’Hagan kicked a point from play for Down to start the action, and after Bernard Allen hit back via a free for Offaly, Jerome Johnston and Caolan Mooney gave Down a two-point advantage by the tenth minute.

Allen and Shane Horan with two points pushed Offaly into the lead by the 21st minutes, but Down finished the half strongly to claim a 0-8 to 0-6 lead at the break

Quinn goaled for Down put them six points ahead midway through the second period, and Niall McNamee was introduced as Offaly sought to cut the lead. But Paddy Tally’s side only stretched their lead with O’Hare on target, while Quinn bagged his second in added time to sign off a convincing win.

At netwatch Cullen Park, a first-half goal from Sean Gannon proved critical as Carlow claimed a one-point victory over high-flying Louth.

Points from Sam Mulroy and Declan Byrne had gotten Louth up and running, but a goal from Gannon after 11 minutes for Carlow put them 1-2 to 0-2 ahead.

Coming into the weekend Carlow had a win and a draw to their name but it was only enough to see them second bottom of the division, but after Andy McDowell and Mulroy pointed for Louth Carlow led 1-5 to 0-4 at half-time.

But after the break, a couple of Mulroy scores and another from Byrne soon had the minimum between the teams. Gannon then pointed for Carlow though, and after Byrne was sent off following his second booking, Carlow held on for a narrow win.

Laois held on to claim their third win with a powerful second-half performance, which has ignited their promotion hopes and dented those of Longford.

After James McGivney put Longford on the scoreboard early on, Evan O’Carroll and Ross Munnelly claimed the lead for the O’Moore county, with further scores from Conor Boyle and Donie Kingston kept Laois in touch after Darren Gallagher and Liam Connerton found their range.

But further points from midfielder Gallagher and another from McGivney meant Longford were 0-8 to 0-7 ahead at half-time

Munnelly kicked his second point after the break, but Gallagher and Mark Hughes put Longford two ahead soon after.

But Laois started to dominate and good scores from Stephen Attride, Donie Kingston and O’Carroll drew them level with 15 minutes remaining.

O’Carroll kicked his fourth point to put Laois clear again, while Eoin Lowry kicked Laois’s final score to seal the win late on.
