Wheelchair Hurling exhibition to take place in Galway on Saturday
By Cian O'Connell
As part of the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability Annual Congress in Galway, a Wheelchair Hurling exhibition will take place this Saturday, June 6.
Between 1 and 4pm at the Sports Hall in University of Galway, Wheelchair Hurling exhibition matches will be played and training sessions provided for new participants.
Enable Ireland and the GAAForALL committee have collaborated on this initiative, in an attempt to showcase the sport.
Tanya-Roberts Browne, chairperson of the National GAAForALL committee, acknowledges the work carried out ahead of the event in the west. "We're absolutely delighted to support the Wheelchair Hurling showcase at the European Academy of Childhood onset Disability Conference in Galway on Saturday," she explains.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the inclusivity of our games and the opportunities that exist for children and young people with disabilities to participate in Gaelic Games. It also gives us a chance to raise awareness of Wheelchair Hurling and to highlight the incredible work that has already been taking place around the country.

"A huge amount of credit must go to our colleagues in Munster and Connacht GAA, along with local volunteers, families and players, who have worked tirelessly to develop and promote the sport in the lead up to the event."
All four provinces remain eager to develop and enhance Wheelchair Hurling. "At a national level, GAAForALL is fully supportive of this initiative," Tayna Browne Roberts adds.
"We look forward to working with Enable Ireland and our provincial and county colleagues to help promote the event and ensure it reaches as many families as possible.
"The theme of the conference is 'Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh Siad'. Encourage the young and they will flourish and that really resonates with what GAA for All is trying to achieve.
"We want every person to feel welcome, valued and included within the GAA community. This showcase is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when organisations, volunteers and families work together and we're proud to play our part in supporting it."
