Donegal and Derry have booked their places in the Electric Ireland Ulster MFC semi-finals, topping their groups to skip the quarter-final stage.

Donegal powered to a 2-12 to 0-8 win over Monaghan at Ballyshannon to clinch top spot in Group A, steering a steady course to the finish line following a dominant first half display.

Eoghan Gallagher and Donnacha O Baoill grabbed goals in the latter stages of the half to send the home side in with a comfortable 2-8 to 0-3 interval lead.

And they held their opponents at arms length during a low-scoring second half, confirming their superiority with scores from Cathal O Gallchoir and Turlough Carr.

Despite a convincing 3-14 to 0-4 win over Fermanagh at Pairc Esler, Down failed to make it to the knock-out stages, as their elimination was confirmed.

In Group B, Derry were in scintillating form at Owenbeg as they chalked up three straight wins with a commanding 2-18 to 0-7 win over Armagh, who were also unbeaten going into the final round of round robin games.

Ger Dillon and Eamon Young nailed the scores that helped the young Oaks to a 0-7 to 0-3 interval lead, and they maintained their dominance through the second half.

Young scored a spectacular individual goal midway through the second half, intercepting an Armagh pass deep inside his own half before sprinting through to hit the net.

James Sargent sent over a couple of long range points, and Dillon fired in a second goal to open out a 16 points lead.

And they finished relentlessly with points from Sargent, Caomhan McNally and Ruairi Biggs.

Semi-finalists Donegal and Derry now await the outcome of the quarter-finals involving Tyrone, Monaghan, Armagh, and Cavan.

Cavan defeated Antrim by 1-15 to 0-10 at Kingspan Breffni to seal their place in the knock-out stage.

Nathan Quigley led a Breffni surge in the latter stages of the first half, sending over four points to add to scores from Joshua Shehu, Oisin Maguire and Oran Madden, after Liam McLernon had hit the target for the Saffrons.

Cavan led by 0-9 to 0-4 at the turnaround, and a Quigley goal three minutes after the restart tightened their grip on the contest.

Antrim had scores from Odhran Quinn, JJ Higgins and Daire Higgins, but were unable to overhaul a home side that pushed on with scores from Quigley, Ryan Nwaneri and Shehu.

The quarter-finals will be played on Saturday May 11, with Tyrone at home to Cavan and Armagh enjoying home advantage for their clash with Monaghan. The semi-finals to follow a week later, on Saturday May 18, with the highest placed teams to have home advantage in both rounds.

The Electric Ireland Ulster MFC final is scheduled for Sunday May 26.
