Reigning TG4 All-Ireland senior champions Dublin got the defence of their crown off to an impressive start as they defeated Mayo in Castlebar.
Two goals from Niamh Hetherton and one from Kate Sullivan helped Dublin to a 3-12 to 0-12 victory, having led by 1-5 to 0-6 at the interval.
Last year’s All-Ireland finalists Meath went down by 2-21 to 1-9 at home to Galway in Bective.
Meath did not build on an eleventh minute goal from Orla Finnegan and turned around level at 1-6 to 0-9 at the break despite playing with the strong breeze.
Galway took charge with the wind behind them and goals from Róisín Leonard and Eva Noone capped a fine win.
Ulster champions Armagh got their campaign off to a flying start when they defeated reigning Lidl League Division One champions Cork by 4-10 to 1-9 at Páirc Uí Rinn.
Aimee Mackin scored a first half hat-trick as Armagh built up a 3-4 to 0-5 interval lead with Caoimhe McNally sealing the win with a late goal.
Munster champions Kerry sent out a title warning with an emphatic 2-16 to 0-4 win over a disappointing Tipperary challenge in Tralee.
Kerry laid the foundation for victory in the opening half when goals from Siofra O’Shea and Anna Galvin, who finished with 2-7 between them, built up a 2-9 to 0-1 interval despite playing against the wind.
Meanwhile, in the TG4 All-Ireland intermediate championship, Westmeath, Clare and Leitrim all through to home quarter finals after victories at the weekend.
