Round-up: Weekend's club camogie action
An Orla Cotter inspired St. Catherine's team are through to their first SE Systems Cork Senior Championship final since 2015.
The SE Systems Cork Senior Championship final has been set, with St Catherine’s set to take on reigning champions St Finbarr’s.
Orla Cotter inspired St Catherine’s to a 1-15 to 0-11 win against Éire Óg, as they secured their first final berth since 2015.
Sorcha McCartan was to the fore for the Barrs with a contribution of 1-8, as they overcame city rivals Blackrock 2-15 to 0-9 to progress.
The final has also been set in Waterford, as Gailltír and De La Salle recorded 18-point victories over Tramore (2-19 to 0-7) and St Anne’s (2-17 to 0-5) respectively – Déise star Beth Carton contributing 1-9 in the latter contest. The rivals will face off in the decider on Suir-side on 11th October.
Several other counties also had their penultimate rounds down for decision.
Newcastle West and Monaleen will contest the Limerick showpiece. Newcastle West needed extra-time to edge Ahane, 2-12 to 1-11. Monaleen made it past Bruff, 2-12 to 0-15.
The Wexford Clearwater Construction Senior Championship saw two tight contests. St Martin’s made it past Glynn Barntown, 0-18 to 2-10. Oulart-the Ballagh defeated Kilrush, 1-14 to 3-5.
Birr overcame Kilcormac Killoughey, 3-18 to 2-11 in the HQ Physio Offaly Championship, and they will face Shinrone in the decider, who beat St Cillian’s 0-13 to 1-9.
Reigning champions Swatragh are into the Errigal Group Derry Senior Championship final, after overcoming Ballinascreen, 3-12 to 2-13. They will renew acquaintances with Slaughtneil, who were too strong for Bellaghy (2-21 to 1-6) in the other semi-final.
It will be a Kiltegan vs Knockananna final in Wicklow, after the teams’ respective wins over Carnew Emmets and Bray Emmets on Saturday.
Myshall and Mount Leinster Rangers will contest the AZAP Print Carlow Senior Championship final, while Raharney and Lough Lene Gaels will face off in the David Smyth Catering Westmeath Championship final.
In the Michael Lyng Motors Kilkenny Senior Championship, Piltown backed up last weekend’s League final victory with a 2-14 to 0-13 quarter-final win over Young Irelands. Dicksboro put that League final loss in the rear-view mirror with a resounding 2-22 to 1-6 win over Thomastown. Tullaroan and St Brigid’s also made it through to the last four.
It was the quarter-final stage in the FBD Insurance Tipperary Senior Championship as well. Clonoulty Rossmore defeated Burgess, 5-15 to 0-5. Thurles Sarsfields beat Moneygall, 3-23 to 2-4. Drom-Inch ran out 3-15 to 0-10 winners over Silvermines. Meanwhile, Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams beat Éire Óg Annacarty, 2-19 to 1-21.
Elsewhere, two counties crowned their champions this weekend. Markievicz prevailed in Donegal with a 2-14 to 1-8 win over St Eunan’s, while St Kevin’s are Whiteriver Louth Senior Championship winners after a 0-14 to 0-3 win over Mattock Rangers.
In the Clare Credit Unions Senior Championship, there were round five wins for Inagh-Kilnamona, Feakle-Killanena, Scariff Ogonnelloe and reigning Munster champions Truagh Clonlara.
Finally in the Antrim Northern Property Senior Championship, Cuchullains Dun Lathaí scored a knockout win over Ruairí Óg, 2-17 to 1-10.
