Allianz Football League Division Four

Tipperary 0-16 Longford 0-14

Leitrim 1-8 London 0-6

O’Byrne Cup champions Longford are already in huge trouble in Division Four of the Allianz Football League, after Tipperary travelled to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park and picked up their first win of the season.

Longford set the tone early in the game, leading by 0-4 to 0-1 within 15 minutes. Points from Darren Gallagher and Michael Quinn got them off the mark, but once Jack Kennedy of JK Brackens got Tipperary moving, they levelled the game soon after, continuing to push on to lead at half-time by 0-7 to 0-5.

Both sides had their periods of ascendancy in the second half but Tipperary always had something to spare. Two points from Tipperary’s Sean O’Connor brought it to 0-9 to 0-6. A Longford free was followed by one from play before O’Connor replied. Dylan Farrell slotted three frees for Longford but star performer O’Connor and a point from Paddy Creedon put Tipp ahead by three.

Gallagher and McGann kept Longford in contention, but the impressive O’Connor landed the game’s last score, his eighth of the game, to clinch the win.

Leitrim picked up their second win in succession, but Andy Moran’s side had a much tougher outing today at Avant Money Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada than they did in their season opener in Dungarvan.

The home side opened their account through Darragh Rooney, but neither team managed a score again until the 17th minute, when Ryan O’Rourke scored Leitrim’s goal.

Shay Rafter popped over London’s first score just before the break which was followed by another from Patrick Dolan. Leitrim led at the break by 1-3 to 0-2. London were never far away as Cathal Lacey and Liam Gallagher registered a point each coming into the final 10 minutes before Rooney scored a neatly taken free to add to Leitrim’s tally.

Cathal Lacey added another for London before Riordan O’Rourke took the final score with a point in the closing minutes.
