Tyrone and Donegal advanced to the Ulster MFC semi-finals, avoiding the quarter-finals as they saw off Cavan and Armagh respectively.

Donegal needed extra-time to get the better of Armagh by 1-21 to 1-15 in a thriller at the Athletic Grounds

Armagh had the ball in the net from a goalmouth scramble after just four minutes, and a couple of Harry Fearon points kept them ahead until Donegal started moving the ball with purpose, picking off points through Thomas Lenehan and Shane Sweeney.

Sweeney and Kevin McLaughlin both landed two-pointers to edge the visitors into a 0-8 to 1-4 interval lead, before Tiarnan O’Neill brought the sides level.

Danny McCready and O’Neill were on target for their respective sides in tense finish that saw them finish level at 1-10 to 0-13.

Armagh led by 1-15 to 0-14 midway through extra-time, but Doneagl came storming back, and an Oran Ryan goal had them in the driving seat.

Tyrone defeated the Breffni lads by 0-19 to 0-13 at O’Neills Healy Park to maintain their unbeaten run and earn a two-week break ahead of their last four tie.

The sides were level after 15 minutes, but wind-assisted Tyrone pulled away in the closing stages of the first half, two-pointers from Eoin Long, Peter Garrity and Peter Colton carrying them to a 0-11 to 0-4 lead at the turnaround.

Two-pointers from Nathan Quigley and Faolan Graham trimmed the gap to three, before the home side imposed themselves on the contest, with James Mulgrew firing over three points and Long adding a couple.

Defending champions Derry were sent crashing out in a narrow defeat to Down at Downpatrick in the Qualifiers stream.

The Mourne lads led by 0-8 to 0-4 at the interval, but the Oaks staged a fightback, before substitute Paul McGovern emerged as the Down hero with a late winning goal, sending them through to the quarter-finals.

Also in the Qualifiers, Monaghan defeated Antrim by 5-21 to 1-19 to keep themselves alive in the series.
