Allianz Football League Division 4
Leitrim 1-16 Waterford 2-8
London 0-19 Longford 2-8
Tipperary 1-13 Antrim 1-9
Carlow 1-15 Wicklow 2-9
It was a busy weekend of action in Division 4 of the Allianz National Football League with Leitrim getting off the mark and London winning in Longford.
Michael Maher’s exiles dominated the Pearse Park tie to move onto three points from two games, having drawn at home to Tipperary last weekend.
A late Peter Lynn goal put some respectability on the scoreline for Longford, whose Round 1 tie with Waterford last weekend was postponed.
The game may well have stood to London who emerged by five points, having led 0-14 to 0-7 on the hour mark.
The visitors had Daniel Clarke black carded with four minutes to go but were well in control at that stage.
Ben Guckian hit a first half goal for Leitrim as they made up for last weekend’s one point defeat in Wicklow as they got the better of Waterford.
Waterford had Cian Kiely sent off late on, on a second yellow card, but with Ryan and Riordan O’Rourke among the scores Leitrim already had the game in the bag.
This was Waterford’s first outing in the league after a first round postponement and they failed to score for the first 20 minutes.
Elsewhere, Tipperary moved onto three points, defeating Antrim who had John Carron sent off just before half-time and Pat Shivers dismissed at the end of the game.
Sean O’Connor hit eight points for Tipp while Daithi Hogan’s 38th minute goal sent them on their way.
For Antrim it was a second defeat on the bounce after last weekend’s opening round loss to table toppers Carlow, who are the only side with full points.
Carlow have full points after two games after a three point victory over Wicklow at Netwatch Cullen Park on Saturday evening.
Joe Murphy’s side had an impressive four point win in Antrim last weekend and followed it up on their own patch to go into the two week break top of the table, with an away tie against Tipperary to come.
Oisin McConville’s Wicklow defeated Leitrim by a point last weekend at Aughrim, but this was a blow to their promotion hopes with Waterford away up next.
Paddy McDonnell hit Carlow’s first half goal as they survived a late scare with Wicklow having a last-gasp goal disallowed. Padraig O’Toole hit both of Wicklow’s goals
