Wexford put back-to-back defeats behind them to launch themselves firmly back into the promotion hunt with an impressive victory over Sligo at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
John Hegarty’s men had lost out to Limerick and Down, but this victory moves them onto six points, and into joint second place alongside Westmeath and Clare, with Down well clear at the top of the table on 10 points.
Wexford’s remaining games are not easy, though - away to resurgent Clare and at home to Westmeath.
Sligo’s promotion hopes are slim after this defeat and they may well be looking over their shoulder, particularly after accumulating just 1-7 in this one.
They currently lie on four points, one clear of Limerick and Laois, with bottom side Fermanagh on zero points.
Wexford has just seven misses with Sean Nolan and Eoghan Nolan both hitting three points from play apiece, while they had an impressive nine different scorers.
Sligo’s goal came right at the death from Cian Lally, on a day when they were very much second best.
In a game with significant implications at both ends of the Division Three table, Down registered a vital victory over Fermanagh at Páirc Esler.
Pat Havern's sharp shooting was evident early on as Down accumulated a 0-7 to 0-2 advantage.
Odhran Murdock added a goal for Conor Laverty's outfit, but Fermanagh were determined throughout.
A late Ronan McCaffrey goal gave Fermanagh hope, but Down, prompted by Adam Crimmins and Havern, recorded an important win.
Laois enjoyed an encouraging success, defeating Westmeath.
Ronan Coffey, Evan O'Carroll, and Paul Kingston netted goals for Laois.
Despite Luke Loughlin's 1-6 contribution for Westmeath, Justin McNulty's charges prevailed at Laois Hire O'Moore Park.
Mark McInerney was at his brilliant best as Clare cruised to victory over Limerick.
The University of Galway student finished with a 1-8 haul, while the excellent Eoin Cleary supplied seven points.
