Westmeath had a dramatic win over Sligo at TEG Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon as Mark McHugh’s side got off to a flyer.

The Lake County hit the final two points to win by one, with Sam McCartan leveling things up before Shane Corcoran shot the winner.

Sligo had looked like they might be set to take both points when Pat Spillane Junior struck over a two pointer on 69 minutes to put them ahead. It was Spillane’s second two pointer in a matter of minutes.

Earlier Jonathan Lynam had hit the net twice for Westmeath, with Sligo’s goal coming from Cian Lally.

Wexford won on the road in Enniskillen, defeating Fermanagh by four points.

A two pointer from Pairic Hughes on the stroke of half time sent Wexford in two up, while Gavin Sheehan’s 24th minute goal was the crucial score.

Clare put up a huge fight at Páirc Esler in Newry this evening, but Odhran Murdock’s late goal turned this Division Three tie upside down.

Last year's PwC All Star nominee Murdock struck on 66 minutes to move the home side from one behind to two points clear.

Daniel Guinness followed up with a stoppage-time two-pointer and it was left to Murdock to seal the deal as Down hit 1-3 without reply late on to get off to a winning start.

This could prove to be a huge win with many fans believing this duo will be right in the shake-up for promotion.

Clare had led by five points at the break, 2-9 to 0-10, thanks chiefly to goals from Mark McInerney and Cillian Brennan and two pointers from Aaron Griffin and Brian McNamara

Meanwhile, Laois had a late Niall Corbet point to thank for a share of the spoils in their encounter with Limerick at O’Moore Park.

It had looked like Eliah Riordan’s two-point free in stoppage time would win it for Limerick on his league debut, after Paul Kingson had put Laois ahead on 69 minutes, but it wasn’t to be for the visitors.

They were left relieved, though, as Laois missed two late chances to grab the win in Portlaoise.
