This weekend the GAA joins in the National Commemoration of An Ghorta Mór and pauses to reflect on the devastation and suffering caused by The Great Hunger in Ireland of the late 1840s.

As well as the harrowing loss of more than one million Irish lives there was a deep impact on our native language, culture, and games – and their preservation and promotion were an integral part of the GAA that was formed almost 141 years ago, and to which we continue to dedicate ourselves.

At this weekend's matches throughout the country, patrons will be asked to stand to pause for a moment to reflect on the lost lives of An Gorta Mór.
