Introduced in 2024, Let’s Talk About Suicide is a free, online suicide prevention training programme from the HSE. Since its launch, over 13,500 people have enrolled in Let’s Talk About Suicide – playing their part in reducing the stigma and working to prevent suicide in their communities.

Now the programme has been updated, with extra new content created in partnership between the GAA and the HSE. This content includes new GAA and sports-oriented videos, that depict what life-saving conversations about suicide, might feel like in these settings.

Let’s Talk About Suicide is free, and accessible to anyone who wants to learn how to recognise the signs that someone may be thinking about suicide and engage with them sensitively and safely. Through interactions with members at the Irish Life GAA Healthy Club Conference 2025 and the addition of new GAA-oriented content, the HSE hopes that more people in these communities become interested in the programme and complete it.

Let’s Talk About Suicide takes a person through a step-by-step guide of real-life scenarios about:

  • Approaching someone who may be thinking of suicide, with guided strategies on active listening, repeating back, open-ended questioning, and using empathy and compassion.
  • Actively working through a suicide intervention, using guided video scenarios and questions on what to do, with further videos modelling the steps to take.
  • Practicing how to ask about suicide, recording their own voice and listening back.
