Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland GAA Championships, has today released Season Three, Episode Three of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring former Antrim camogie captain and advocate Jane Adams.

Jane speaks openly throughout the podcast about her love for the sport and the enjoyment she received from playing camogie. She speaks about her minor years in the game and the lack of development and funding at the time, which led to a huge drop off rate of young players. Jane looks forward to now and sees the investment in the game by Electric Ireland and other brands that bring the much deserved visibility and awareness to the sport.

Adams recalls her rise to becoming Antrim’s All-Star camogie player and her relationship with Antrim hurling legend Jim Nelson during this time. From winning the Féile over 10 years before, the extremely driven star speaks about her club’s iconic win in the All-Ireland Club Championships in 2008 where Adams scored 2-9 for her club Rossa. She highlighted what this meant for all of West Belfast and the joy it brought to the area, which had once been the centre of grief and trouble.

Looking back, Jane revisits some of the challenges and struggles she faced with her sexuality growing up. For years she focused on camogie as an escape so she didn’t have to deal with this part of her life. As time went on, Jane recognised her responsibility to own her sexuality and set an example for those who would come after her. Accepting herself led to a number of doors opening in her life. During the episode, Jane also delves into the part she plays in the grassroots campaign Gaels Le Chéile.

Speaking to the upcoming generation of minors, Jane offers the advice of enjoying the game as much as you can and grabbing every opportunity with both hands. She also highlights her stand out minor moment from her career, which involves when she noticed a young Fermanagh player, Ursula Maguire and the abilities and skill she had in camogie yet she wasn’t from a camogie stronghold county. This taught her the lesson you don’t have to be from a county producing All-Stars to be truly top class.

Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.

Season Three Episode One featured Kilkenny camogie legend, Ann Downey, with Episode Two featuring former Tipperary player and author Eimear Ryan. This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests including Alan Brogan, Richie Hogan and many more as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
