The GAA has established a Games Intelligence Unit (GIU) to support the ongoing review of Gaelic football by the Football Review Committee (FRC). The GIU will monitor, track, and collect data to assess whether recent rule enhancements lead to real and measurable improvements. This aligns with the Association’s goal of making Gaelic Football “the most enjoyable game in the world to play and watch.”
Furthermore, the GIU will assist the Association with reviewing and monitoring trends of the game beyond the lifespan of the FRC.
The GIU has partnered with the School of Health & Human Performance and the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at Dublin City University (DCU) to investigate this key research area on the physical demands on players. Using only the GPS devices, this provides an objective, data driven analysis.
Attached is the Provincial Championship physical demands summary report.
