This initiative aimed at enhancing inclusivity and accessibility in sports, the recent GAA Wheelchair Hurling Development Day has sparked widespread enthusiasm and optimism. Held at Croke Park on Saturday April 6, the development day attracted participants from Munster, Connacht, Leinster, and Ulster ranging from seasoned athletes to newcomers eager to explore the exhilarating world of wheelchair hurling.

With its origins deeply rooted in Irish heritage, hurling has long been revered as one of the country's most cherished sporting traditions. However, until now, individuals with mobility impairments have faced considerable barriers to participation.

The ethos behind the Wheelchair Hurling Development Day was clear: to develop the high performing sport and provide a platform where athletes of all abilities could share their views and listen to each other.

Through a workshop in high performance coaching with the Cliodhna O’Connor, Athlete development Coach, participants were empowered to hone their personal skills, build camaraderie, and embrace the spirit of competition.
