The GAA, through its Medical, Scientific & Welfare Committee has published an updated Cardiac Health Position Paper. This can be accessed via the Cardiac Health Resource Hub on Tobar here - https://learning.gaa.ie/cardiachealth

The 2026 Position Paper promotes a holistic approach to cardiac health for Gaelic Games' members, to include behavioural factors and emergency readiness in addition to screening.

Additionally, the GAA Cardiac Screening Protocol Questionnaire is available to download. This should be completed in conjunction with a suitably qualified medical professional in the context of any cardiac screening.

Specific Guidance in relation to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) is also available through the above link. The core message with AEDs remains the same - ACT to ensure Heart Safety at your Club. Make sure that your defibrillator is stored in an area where ACCESS is not restricted, ensure it is CHARGED and self tests have been passed by carrying out weekly inspections and ensuring that there are enough TRAINED rescuers to respond anytime the clubhouse or pitches are occupied.

All members are advised to familarise themselves and fellow club members with these resources in the interests of the welfare of all members.
