Following a meeting of the Football Review Committee (FRC), the Committee formally submitted a recommendation for a Rule Enhancement to be considered for amendment by the Standing Committee on Playing Rules (SCPR).

In accordance with the enabling motion passed by Special Congress on the 30th of November 2024, the SCPR requested that Coiste Bainistí submit the following motion to Ard Chomhairle -

Amend Rule 2 – Set Play, 2.12 Mark, Play on immediately - Kick Out Mark,(b) (ii) to read as follows:

(ii) If the Player is illegally challenged, a free kick shall be awarded to the player’s team from the point at which the challenge is made, and this free kick may be taken by any player on that team.

Ard Chomhairle voted in favour of the amendment on a vote of; 38 Tá, 1 Níl. This rule now reverts to the position that existed prior to the changes made at Special Congress.

The change will come into effect from Saturday 21st on.
