Fermanagh GAA has officially launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, Building from the Ground Up, setting out an ambitious roadmap for the future development of Gaelic Games, facilities, volunteers and communities across the county over the next five years.

Developed following extensive consultation with clubs, volunteers, players, officers, staff and external stakeholders, the plan outlines 89 actions across nine strategic themes, providing a clear framework for the continued growth and development of Gaelic Games in Fermanagh.

The Strategic Plan is built around the themes of Coaching & Games, Clubs & Communities, Volunteers, Cultúr, Health & Wellbeing, Integration, Facilities, Finance and Governance, reflecting Fermanagh GAA's commitment to strengthening every aspect of the Association.

Among the key priorities identified within the plan are:

  • The delivery of the proposed £7 million Ashwoods Development, creating a modern county hub for games development, administration, performance and community engagement.
  • Improving standards and performance across football and hurling at all levels through enhanced coaching, player development and games structures.
  • The development and implementation of a comprehensive Gaelic Games Volunteer Strategy to recruit, retain, support and recognise volunteers across the county.
  • Strengthening governance, financial sustainability and organisational effectiveness.
  • Supporting clubs as vibrant centres of community life throughout Fermanagh.

The delivery of the proposed £7 million Ashwoods Development, creating a modern county hub for games development, administration, performance and community engagement, is a key goal of Fermanagh GAA's Strategic Plan.

The launch of the Strategic Plan follows a period of significant organisational development within the county, including the appointment of a dedicated Head of Operations and Commercial Manager, roles which have been identified as key enablers in supporting the delivery of the plan and driving sustainable progress across the Association.

Speaking at the launch, Fermanagh GAA Chairperson John McGovern described the plan as a landmark moment for the county.

"This Strategic Plan represents a clear statement of intent for Fermanagh GAA. It reflects the views and aspirations of our clubs, volunteers, players and wider communities and provides a practical roadmap for where we want to be by 2030.

"The actions contained within the plan are ambitious but achievable. Whether it is developing Ashwoods, improving standards in football and hurling, strengthening our clubs or supporting our volunteers, this plan is ultimately about creating the conditions for Gaelic Games and our communities to thrive across Fermanagh.

"Most importantly, this is not simply a document that will sit on a shelf. It is a living plan that will be actively monitored, reported upon and delivered over the coming years."

Head of Operations Phil Flanagan highlighted the importance of accountability and performance management in ensuring the successful delivery of the strategy.

"One of the strengths of this Strategic Plan is the emphasis placed on implementation and reporting. Every action within the plan has a designated lead officer, clear progress measures and defined next steps.

"Our focus now moves from planning to delivery. We have established robust systems to track progress, to monitor performance and to provide regular updates to clubs, members and stakeholders.

"The appointment of dedicated operational and commercial resources has strengthened our ability to deliver on the ambitions outlined within the plan and to ensure that progress is visible, measurable and transparent."

As part of its commitment to openness and accountability, Fermanagh GAA has also launched an online Strategic Plan Tracker, providing real-time visibility of progress against each action contained within the strategy.

The tracker allows members and stakeholders to view progress by strategic theme, action status and lead officer, ensuring that delivery remains transparent throughout the lifespan of the plan.

Progress will be reviewed regularly by County Committee and relevant sub-committees, with ongoing reporting to members and stakeholders on the implementation of key actions and outcomes.

The Strategic Plan 2026–2030 represents a significant step forward for Fermanagh GAA as it seeks to build strong foundations, develop sustainable structures and create opportunities for current and future generations to participate in and enjoy Gaelic Games across the county.
