Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships, has today released Season Three, Episode Two of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring former Tipperary camogie player and author Eimear Ryan.

Eimear kicks off the episode looking back at her younger years in Gaelic Games, being inspired to play and write by her grandfather. Ryan played with the underage boys’ teams in Moneygall and recalls some of her earliest memories playing at halftime in an All-Ireland Final, which she writes about in her book ‘The Grass Ceiling’.

Throughout the podcast and highlighted across her book, Eimear emphasises the lack of visibility of camogie players when she was growing up and the challenging gender dynamics she faced when playing camogie through school. Ryan recalls her first female coach and stresses the importance of these role models to young girls who are growing up playing sport.

Reflecting back to her minor years, Eimear reminisces on the lifts to and from training being a real highlight. She offers the advice to young girls playing to enjoy it, get the most out of it and to be kind to yourself when things don’t go right. Ryan speaks on the importance of Electric Ireland sponsoring the Minor Championships and the importance of seeing these camogie players front and centre.

Leaving the game for a time at just 20 years of age to explore travelling and writing, Eimear speaks about the challenges this came with and how looking back with hindsight she may have made some different decisions. Eimear returned to club camogie and kicked on to have a very enjoyable career on the pitch. She spoke on the future of female coaching and management in the GAA and how this will continue to come to the forefront in the coming years.

Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.

Season Three Episode One featured Kilkenny camogie legend, Ann Downey. This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests including Jane Adams, Alan Brogan, Richie Hogan and many more as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
