Meath GAA recently signed contracts with Sisk for the redevelopment of the stand at Páirc Tailteann.
Aiming to ensure the venue meets modern standards for safety, accessibility, supporter experience, and community use, the refurbishments will commence shortly.
Meath GAA secretary Ciarán Flynn is hopeful that Páirc Tailteann will be available for the 2027 Club Championships. "I'd love to see our football championship, which starts on the first weekend of August, that is a realistic target," Flynn says.
"It might be open before that, but you'd love to be up and running for that."
The redevelopment will be a significant boost for Navan according to Flynn. "We will lose two cycles of the league, we will be in Croke Park this year and next year," Flynn explains.
"Then, in what will be year three, Páirc Tailteann will be up and running, we'd love to be playing Division One football in front of a 5,000 seater stand going from corner flag to corner flag.
"It is going to be modern - it will have new floodlights, it will bring a lot to the town. The County Council are very supportive, they want big Saturday night games in Páirc Tailteann, it will be a great boost for the economy."
There will be a different element to the 2026 Meath SFC and SHC without Páirc Tailteann. "I'm the fixtures secretary for the CCC, too," Flynn responds.
"For example, last year we played a full round of the Meath hurling championship in Páirc Tailteann, all six games were played in it. That is something that won't be able to happen.
"In the football, something similar - we'd have a game on a Friday, and have at least four, if not six more over the weekend. You're definitely losing, at a minimum four games, out of Páirc Tailteann at a weekend in senior.
"We've done a lot of work in Dunganny, we've three new grass pitches and we retrofitted the lights on our three grass pitches and our Astro. So, Dunganny will definitely take up a bit of the slack.
"Ultimately, we've a great club network, the guts of 30 or 40 will be looking to host big games and 10 or 15 are well capable of hosting the bigger senior games. It is a question of what will be the fairest way to do it."
