Paul Flanagan - Ambasadóir Gaeilge CLG 2023
Clare hurler, Paul Flanagan, was announced as the GAA’s Irish language Ambassador for 2023 at an event in Croke Park yesterday. He is looking forward to his role as Irish language Ambassador.
As part of his role, Paul will be supporting and helping promote GAA Irish language schemes, initiatives and events such as Cuaille (the GAA’s online Irish language magazine), Lá Mór na Gaeilge and the GAAgaeilge Go Games that will be taking place in Croke Park later this year.
At the launch of the GAA’s Ambasadóir na Gaeilge in Croke Park yesterday Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Labhrás Mac Cárthaigh, welcomed Paul to the role and wished him well for the year ahead.
Paul said it was a great honour for him to be Ambasadóir Gaeilge CLG and said he looked forward to the role and hoped he could encourage as many as possible to use their Gaeilge.
Paul had a very successful year with the Clare hurlers last year and his exploits on the field of play were duly recognised when he was shortlisted for an All-Star award. He captained the Clare U21 hurlers to All-Ireland success in 2013 and has won many honours with his club Ballyea, including a Senior Munster Championship in 2016.
The GAA’s Coiste Náisiúnta na Gaeilge and staff are looking forward to working with Paul in the year ahead. Paul succeeds Galway footballer, Paul Conroy, as the GAA’s Irish language Ambassador.
