The 'Have A Go' hurling and camogie event was a success at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

There was plenty of evidence last night that hurling and camogie have a bright future in Longford.

A total of 120 children took to the field at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park to ‘Have A Go’ at Hurling and Camogie, with many picking up a hurl for the very first time. From the moment the first sliotar was struck, the pitch was full of energy, excitement and plenty of new little stars learning the skills of our national games.

It was a night all about fun and learning. The children were introduced to the basics of holding a hurl, dribbling, catching and striking, before putting their new skills into practice through a range of fun, small-sided games. With every child receiving their own sliotar, there were plenty of touches and plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Most importantly, it was a fun evening. Damien Sheridan, Longford Head of Games, and all the coaches and volunteers who brought such fantastic energy to the evening. Their enthusiasm and commitment helped make the event such a success.

The children also had some very special guests in attendance, with the All-Ireland U17 Celtic Challenge and the Lory Meagher Cup on display, along with player representatives from both panels. It was a brilliant opportunity for the children to see the silverware up close and meet some of the players who have represented Longford with pride.

The Longford County Board also supported the event.

The next step now is to keep the fun going. We would encourage parents to get their children involved with their local club, where they can continue to develop the skills they learned, make new friends and enjoy the beautiful games of hurling and camogie.
