Bernadette Prendergast and Catherine Gannon talk about their involvement in the GAA over the years. Catherine discusses her father’s, William Squires Gannon’s, career in the GAA in Kildare. She talks about the two All-Ireland football finals in 1927 and 1928 that he won and notes how Kildare were the first team to win the Sam Maguire. She recalls her father bringing the Sam Maguire back to Kildare town and the celebrations that were held. They talk about the influence of Squires Gannon on the GAA in Kildare and Catherine describes what kind of man he was. They talk about the role of the GAA in Kildare town and the place of the club in the local community. They talk about Squires Gannon’s involvement in the Round Towers club and how the club’s stand is named in his honour. Bernadette talks about her involvement in the Kildangan club and how her children play with the club. They describe what it is like to be related to Squires Gannon and the respect he still gets and how he is remembered.
