Allianz Hurling League Division 2A

Westmeath 2-17 London 0-15

Mayo 0-17 Meath 0-17

Westmeath are top of Division 2A of the Allianz hurling league this evening after goals from Allan Devine and Niall Mitchell either side of half time helped them to a 2-17 to 0-15 win over London at TEG Cusack Park this afternoon, and set up a top of the table clash with Kerry next weekend.

The home side put in most of the hard work in the first half and were 11 points clear at the break thanks to Devine’s goal and some good points from Niall Mitchell, Darragh Clinton, Killian Doyle and Robbie Greville.

Some good approach play from Clinton set up Mitchell for their second goal six minutes after half time and despite Aaron Sheahan firing over a string of second half frees for the Exiles, Westmeath eased to victory. A late red card for Conor Kennedy compounded the misery for London, who will have home comfort next weekend against Mayo.

Mayo salvaged an 0-17 all draw against Meath in Tooreen, with Shane Boland firing 0-11 for the home side. Alan Douglas, Padraig O’Hanrahan and Kevin Keena were all on the scoresheet in the first half as Meath built up an 0-11 to 0-8 lead, and the three men were also on target after half time, as was Damien Healy, as they moved 0-15 to 0-9 ahead.

Mayo rallied well however and it fell to Cathal Freeman to tie up the game in injury time.

Allianz Hurling League Division 2B

Kildare 2-16 Donegal 1-13

Kildare will be hoping to make a quick return to 2A company after suffering relegation last year and they took a huge step towards achieving that goal at O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny, where they came back from four points down to record a 2-16 to 1-13 win over Donegal.

Both sides burst out of the blocks in style here, Gavin Browne finding the net for Donegal before Bernard Deay replied in kind for Kildare – with Donegal goalkeeper Paul Burns producing a magnificent penalty save to deny Brian Byrne in between.

A second penalty for Kildare was taken by goalkeeper Paddy McKenna but this was blasted over the crossbar, and it began to look as if this was going to be a costly miss as scores from Declan Coulter and Kevin Kealy pushed Donegal 1-9 to 1-6 in front early in the second half.

Kildare took over from there however and points from Kevin Whelan, Barry Cormack and Paul Divilly edged them in front before man of the match Brian Byrne wrapped up the win with a late goal.

Allianz Hurling League Division 3A

Roscommon 3-18 Louth 1-11

Louth have their work cut of for them to get back to the Division 3A final, which they contested in 2018, after Roscommon travelled to Dundalk and swept them aside by 3-18 to 1-11. Gearóid Egan (2) and Conor Mulry got the goals as Roscommon blew Louth away in the first half, taking a 3-11 to 0-4 lead into the dressing room. Shane Curley top scored with 0-11 for the Rossies, while substitute Cathal Minogue got Louth’s goal late in the game.

Stephen Reneghan, Eoin McGuinness and Dylan McKenna (2) were the goalscorers as Armagh moved to the top of that division with a 4-11 to 0-7 win over Monaghan at Inniskeen.

Allianz Hurling League Division 3B

Sligo 2-14 Fermanagh 1-16

Finally in division 3B, Rúairí Brennan’s last gasp point gave Sligo a 2-14 to 1-16 win over Fermanagh at Kent Park, just when it looked as if Declan McGarry’s goal in the second minute of added time would salvage a point for the Erne County. Gary Cadden and Joe Star were the Sligo goalscorers.

Cavan also picked up an injury-time win, John Sheanon registering his 5th score in the 71st minute of their 2-9 to 1-11 win over Leitrim in Ballyconnell.
