It was a satisfactory Saturday at MW Hire O'Moore Park for Kerry, who defeated Ulster champions Tyrone by the narrowest of margins, 0-8 to 1-4.

Tight and tense throughout, Kerry led at the interval by 0-6 to 1-2.

An early Caolan Donnelly goal provided encouragement for Tyrone, but Kerry responded impressively.

Cormac Dillon and Paddy Lane prominent, while Donagh O'Sullivan also landed a fine score just before the break.

When the action recommenced Eddie Healey contributed a crucial point for Kerry.

Ronan Molloy replied for Tyrone, but a Fionn Murphy free steered Kerry two ahead.

In the dying embers Donnelly trimmed the deficit down to one, but Kerry, beaten in the Munster decider, survived to claim a significant win.

Derry overpowered Cork 0-12 to 0-6 to advance to the penultimate round.

A defiant Derry outfit frustrated Cork, who only managed four points from play during the match.

At half-time Derry were 0-5 to 0-2 ahead with Ciarán Chambers and Odhran Crozier effective.

After the restart Derry extended the gap to 0-8 to 0-2 as Cork struggled to deal with Chambers.

Eoin Higgins and Odhran Murphy also struck important scores for Derry.

Colm Gillespie battled hard for Cork, who were never able to seriously trouble Derry in the closing stages.
