A number of interesting and important Allianz Football League matches are on the agenda this weekend.

The Division Two meeting between Galway and Offaly at Pearse Stadium on Sunday carries implications at both ends of the table.

Padraic Joyce's Galway, with Shane Walsh in splendid form, have stitched a three match winning sequence together in the league, but they can expect a determined challenge from Offaly.

The Faithful County summoned a spirited display last weekend before leaking a last gasp goal which earned Meath a draw.

It is points rather than plaudits that John Maughan's charges crave and they will head for Salthill anxious to examine Galway.

Niall McNamee and Dylan Hyland starred in the Meath match, while the promising Jack Bryant also showed glimpses of his talent.

Walsh registered 2-7 as Galway eventually shrugged off Cork's resistance with Rob Finnerty and Damien Comer also landing vital scores for the Tribesmen.

On Saturday in Division Three the stakes will be piled high in the midlands derby in Mullingar when Westmeath and Longford clash.

Jack Cooney's Westmeath have chalked up two wins from three matches so another home success would leave them in a healthy position.

Longford, under the stewardship of Billy O'Loughlin, are eager to avoid relegation, and need to secure a victory in a highly competitive group.

With only one point on the board, Longford will be striving to earn the spoils against neighbours Westmeath.

Fermanagh's tussle with Laois carries significant implications too with both counties currently on three points.

Whoever manages to carve out a victory will believe that Division Two status can be attained for 2023.

Considering the new All Ireland SFC and Tailteann Cup format being implemented this summer these Division Three encounters are critical.

In Division Four on Sunday, Cavan, who currently lead the table, travel to Markievicz Park for a match against Sligo.

Having won their opening two fixtures, Tony McEntee's team suffered a disappointing loss to Tipperary.

Cavan, with Gearoid McKiernan still an influential figure, have impressed so far this year.

Wexford and Tipperary will both want to build on morale boosting results.

A win over in form London at Ruislip was a boost for Wexford, while Tipperary edged out Sligo too.
