AIB All Ireland Club SFC Quarter-Final
St Kiernan's (London) v Slaughtneil (Derry), Greenford, London, 1pm
By Cian O'Connell
With a first London senior title secured St Kiernan's will be hoping to deliver a plucky performance against Derry and Ulster champions Slaughtneil.
It has been a hugely encouraging campaign for Kiernan's, who delivered when it mattered against a fancied Tir Chonaill Gaels outfit on October 23.
Since 2005 The Gaels claimed seven London Championships, but Kiernan's solid defensive display frustrated them.
A year ago Kiernan's leaked three goals when losing the decider to TCG, but they were far more robust on this occasion.
Tir Chonaill Gaels could only muster five points during the hour, while at the opposite end Kiernan's captain Adrian Moyles, a fine footballer, and Michael O'Donoghue were sharp.
Slaughtneil completed a three-in-a-row in Derry and went on to claim a second provincial crown. The win over Kilcoo captured why Slaughtneil are such a respected and resilient force.
To earn Ulster Football, hurling, and camogie glory in 2016 is a remarkable achievement for Slaughtneil, who are driven to perform on the national stage now.
Mickey Moran's Slaughtneil know that an awkward assignment awaits, but players such as Chrissy McKaigue, Shane McGuigan, and Paul Bradley will be willing to embrace the challenge in west London on Sunday.
