Munster SHL and Walsh Cup round-up

Patrick Horgan

Patrick Horgan

Patrick Horgan and Daniel Kearney were the main men for Cork as they hit a combined 18 points for the Rebels in their 0-25 to 1-19 Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League victory over Waterford.

In an entertaining match between two experimental selections, Waterford settled more quickly and were 1-2 to no score ahead after seven minutes, with the goal coming from Eamonn Murphy.

Cork improved as the game developed though, and thanks to 10 points from Horgan, seven of them frees, had reduced the deficit to a single-point by half-time.

The second-half was a real nip and tuck contest, and the sides were level with just five minutes of normal time remaining.

Cork found a strong finish though, and injury-time points from Shane Kingston and Alan Cadogan sealed the win.
In tonight’s other Munster SHL Round 3 clash, Limerick bounced back from their defeat to Cork last weekend by beating Clare 2-15 to 0-19.

The Shannonsiders trailed by 0-12 to 1-8 at half-time with their goal coming from Graeme Mulcahy.

In a scrappy encounter, a second goal for Limerick late in game from Barry Nash ultimately proved decisive.

In tonight’s three Bord na Móna Walsh Cup matches, IT Carlow edged out Meath by a point in a high-scoring encounter, UCD edged out Carlow, and NUIG proved too strong for DIT.
