Tipperary's John McGrath has come out on top in the public vote for this week's GAA.ie Hurler of the Week.

The talented Premier County attacker impressed during the All Ireland champions Allianz League win over Waterford at Walsh Park.

McGrath earned 2,100 votes on the GAA's official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages with Clare's Aron Shanagher second and Laois' Stephen Maher third.

GAA.ie Hurler of the Week

** **

1: John McGrath (Tipperary) - 2100 (42%)

2: Aron Shanagher (Clare) - 1649 (33%)

3: Stephen Maher (Laois) - 1264 (25%)

Waterford supporters were surely relieved not to see Seamus Callanan start for Tipperary on Sunday, but his replacement, John McGrath, proved to be a more than capable deputy.

He was the game's top scorer from play with a tally of 1-3 and chipped in with three pointed frees too.

His ability to win possession with intelligent movement and then do something productive with it made him a thorn in Waterford's side all afternoon.

Clare's ruthless demolition of Kilkenny was a serious statement victory and no-one played a bigger part in it than talented young forward Aron Shanagher.

He scored 1-4, 1-3 of which came from play, and absolutely electric in the opening 13 minutes when he played a part in every Clare score as they raced into a 1-5 to 0-2 lead.

Kilkenny debutant Evan Cody simply couldn't handle Shanagher's mixture of power, pace, and clinical finishing, and you get the feeling he isn't the last corner-forward who'll suffer at Shanagher's hands this year and for many more to come.

Stephen Maher, the classy Laois half-forward was the main man for his team yet again when they defeated Offaly in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League on Saturday evening.

He scored 0-12, five points of which was from play, as he gave an exhibition of clincial striking that proved to be the main difference between the two teams.

Maher's performance was all the more impressive considering his exertions the previous Wednesday when helping Carlow IT to victory over UL in the Fitzgibbon Cup.
