Leitrim’s Ronan Kennedy has been voted GAA.ie Footballer of the Week.

His super-sub heroics in the second-half earned Leitrim a hard-fought Connacht SFC Quarter-Final victory over London in Ruislip last Sunday.

That display earned him 41 per cent of the public vote on the GAA’s Official Twitter (@officialgaa), Facebook, and Instagram pages ahead of Wexford’s Conor McDonald and Offaly’s Shane Dooley.

GAA.ie Footballer of the Week

1: Ronan Kennedy (Leitrim) – 1923 (41 per cent)

2: Conall McCann (Tyrone) - 1753 (38 per cent)

3: Paul Kerrigan (Cork) – 987 (21 per cent)

With the Connacht SFC Quarter-Final in the balance in Ruislip, Ronan Kennedy entered the fray on 40 minutes and was ultimately the match winner for Brendan Guckian’s side.

Leitrim were trailing against the Exiles in the second half before Kennedy was introduced and managed to register 2-2 from play as the visitors ran out 3-10 to 0-16 victors.

Kennedy’s two nicely finished second-half goals pushed his county over the line against a determined London outfit at McGovern Park.

He may be new to the senior inter-county set-up, but Tyrone’s Conall McCann is no stranger to success on the big stage after helping St. Mary’s, Belfast claim the Independent.ie Sigerson Cup title earlier this year.

In his Championship debut against Derry at the weekend McCann impressed at midfield and showed no hesitation when finding himself in scoring opportunities, registering two points from play.

His ability to make ground up and down the field, as well as his link up play, was impressive as Mickey Harte’s men advance to a date with Donegal in this year’s Ulster championship.

Cork’s senior footballers suffered a shock provincial exit against Tipperary almost 12 months ago and they were in serious danger against Waterford on Saturday before carving out a narrow victory.

Despite all the negativity surrounding the performance they still got the win which was largely down to the experienced Paul Kerrigan, who notched 1-3 from play.

Kerrigan’s first-half fisted goal was vital as Cork lead for the majority of the game, and when Waterford were clawing their way back into the match he picked a fine score to keep the Deise at arm’s length.
