It was a brave move by Jim Gavin and his selectors to alter his defensive set-up, but Fitzsimons excelled.

When Dublin required scores and inspiration early on Saturday, Ballymun Kickhams forward Dean Rock accepted responsibility.

Rock ended with a nine point haul with two important efforts from play in the opening period critical interventions.

Prolific throughout the year Rock registered 1-58 in Dublin's seven match campaign. His healthy replay tally also means that Rock has now scored 3-101 in 25 Championship encounters.
