McKenna Cup round-up

Jamie Clarke

Tonight’s results from Round 3 of the McKenna Cup means Tyrone will play Fermanagh and Derry will play Monaghan in the semi-finals of the competition this Sunday.

Tyrone needed a big win to qualify, and got it tonight as they hammered a Donegal U-21 selection by 2-23 to 0-6.
As soon as Ronan McHugh scored Tyrone’s first goal after 13 minutes, the writing was already on the wall for the young Donegal team.

By half-time Tyrone were already out of sight, leading by 1-12 to 0-3, and a second goal from Cahir McCullagh three minutes from time added an extra coat of gloss to the final score.

Derry also needed to rack up a big score to make it to the knock-out stages and did more than enough as they walloped Queens by 2-20 to 0-06.

Fermanagh and Monaghan sealed their progress thanks to wins over Antrim and St. Mary’s respectively.
