From January 1, 2018 every kick-out in Gaelic Football will have to cross the 20 metre line.

Jarlath Burns, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Playing Rules, was 'delighted' 82 per cent of delegates voted in favour of Motion 21.

"I think it was a very sensible change to be brought in," Burns stated.

"It wasn't overly-radical, you can't afford to be overly-radical when you are trying to get changes through Congress."
Was Burns surprised that so many backed the proposal?

“I was just hoping it would get through," Burns answered. "Sixty percent took the pressure off a bit, the fact that you don’t need the two-thirds anymore. But yeah, I am a bit surprised.

"If you look at it today, it was a great Congress for those of us who were proposing motions.

"If you wanted to get a motion through today was the day to do it because we were definitely in the mood for change and Congress, the way it was today, I felt it was very focused.

"Very often when you come here, if it’s a full Congress you just don’t see as much work done and it just doesn’t be as focused as it was today. I thought it was a great Congress and a great endorsement of Central Council and their vision."
