*Westmeath *captain John Heslin led by example as the midlanders defeated *Derry *at Celtic Park.

Heslin netted a penalty after an early Callum McCormack as Westmeath struck the Derry net twice in the opening five minutes.

Derry responded with an Enda Lynn goal as Westmeath led by 2-7 to 1-7 at half-time

Westmeath's Sam Duncan and Derry's James Kielt, but Colin Kelly's charges prevailed despite the late concession of a goal to Niall Toner.

*Longford *produced a brilliant attacking performance to beat *Offaly *at Bord Na Mona O'Connor Park.

Robbie Smyth contributed eight points, while Seanie McCormack, Rian Brady,and Connor Berry all blasted goals.
