Acheson: 'You always have to believe'

Tipperary captain Peter Acheson.

Tipperary captain Peter Acheson.

Tipperary captain Peter Acheson always believed that the Premier County would summon a Munster SFC shock.

Acheson was thrilled that Tipperary delivered during an eventful provincial semi-final against Cork.

"You always have to believe, you would not play otherwise," Acheson said.

The 2014 defeat to Cork was a signifcant loss according to Acheson.  "We seem to be always going good against them, Kerry, until about 40 or 50 minutes and class pushes on then.

"The Cork game was an eye opener.  We threw it away ourselves to be honest.  Aidan Walsh came on and kicked three great points, we threw it away.

"The belief was there, we won Munster under 21 in 2010, the minors won the year after, the 21s and minors last year, the talent is there.

"It was great to get it done, to break the duck.  A lot of people behind the scenes were driving us for years, they were the happiest people out on the field.  The 10 minutes after the game was nearly as hard I was getting so many pats on the back.

"The likes of Joe Hannigan had tear, it was their work that us where we are now."

Acheson admits Tipp won't fear Kerry.  "There is not much fear in the lads, there is a lot of respect - Kerry they are a serious outfit.

"I dont  think there is fear of anybody really, just a lot of respect.  All we can do is play our best, if they have an off day maybe we might catch them, it's going to be tough - especially down there."
