Johnny Tooher

Johnny Tooher discusses his childhood in Birr and how his father’s stories of playing influenced him to start playing hurling. He discusses Birr GAA club history and record at both provincial and national levels. He mentions the club players involved in Offaly senior team over the years the players he admired as a child. He insists on the importance of the Presentation Brothers nuturing the Birr teams to win. He also talks about attending matches and describes the celebrations after the games. Then he discusses the running of the club by mentioning fundraising or the organisation of travels to Croke Park for a match. He tells about the proud moments with the club but also how they cope with tragedy and about the difficult decisions they had to make over the years. Finally Johnny also talks about the place held by the club in the community and all the friends he had made over the years.
