Detty and Rob Cornally

Rob and Detty Cornally talk about their GAA experiences. Rob grew up in Ballymore, watching games and playing for the local club. He went on to play at schools level and was on the Westmeath minor, Under-21 and senior panel. He describes his playing days - how they trained, who their rivals were and making their way to games. He then moved to Mullingar where he played with the local Shamrocks team before getting involved in administration and eventually becoming secretary of the Westmeath Football Board. His wife, Detty, is originally from Mullingar and was heavily involved with her local club, organising fundraising drives, setting up underage ladies football teams and becoming secretary and chairperson of the ladies county board, and promoting Scór in the area. Both Rob and Detty see the GAA as an integral aspect of community life around the country. They are grateful for what it has given them and are more than happy to give something back in return.
