Glencar Manorhamilton GAA club celebrate 50th anniversary
Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club will be Reeling Back the Years from Friday August 2nd to Monday August 5th 2019 to celebrate fifty years as a thriving unit of the Association and as a vibrant component of community life in the parish.
An open invitation is now being extended to everyone in the greater Manorhamilton area to be part of this great event, together with those who may have been part of the club or community over the years and who are now resident in other parts of Ireland or overseas.
It is hoped that the celebrations being planned will be a spur to encourage as many as possible to return to Manor for a weekend of fun activities, camaraderie, re-unions, nostalgia and the sheer joy of meeting up again with so many who have been part and parcel of the club in the myriad of activities that have occurred since the club’s formation half a century ago.
Many of the founding members are now ar Shlí na Fírinne and will be remembered at a club Memorial Mass over the weekend; others are still actively involved and have also passed on the pride in Glencar Manor to their families, as is evident from the names on the club register. It is not in any way presumptuous to state that there is scarcely a home in the area that does not have some participation in club affairs.
And so, the celebrations are very much for everybody and this is reflected in the plans at present being drawn up by the organising committee. The emphasis will be very much on creating a memorable weekend that will be enjoyed by one and all and that will be a worthy tribute to all those who have contributed in any way to the success of Glencar Manor and who will carry on the great work into the future.
What is planned at present are player and team re-unions; championship football, the publication of the club history; live music on Main Street with ceól, caint agus craic; Golf Classic; Football and Hurling Club Camp and a Townland Tournament for the younger generation; Novelty matches; photo and memorabilia exhibition and a proud nod to the future with the official opening of the club’s new pitch and facilities at Boggaun. ALL events are FREE of charge.
If you are, or have been, a player, member, official, sponsor, supporter, team official, Scór participant or promoter or just a casual follower of the club or would like to be involved, the Reeling Back the Years weekend is for you.
The club is proud of its Open Door Policy to one and all. Beidh Céad Mile Failte romhat.
