Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship

Cork 0-20 Limerick 1-14

Tipperary 1-20 Waterford 1-12

Cork have taken the direct route to their first Munster Minor Hurling Championship final in two years with a three-point victory away to Limerick.

The Treaty teenagers were also guaranteed to progress to the knockout stage,s but must now face a semi-final away to Clare in order to reach a final rematch against the Rebels.

Barry Walsh had missed Cork’s loss to Clare last time out, but he returned to score 0-9, including eight frees.

Limerick had the first three points and led the way for much of the first half, fired by contributions from Darren Collopy (0-5, 4f), Robert O'Farrell, and Tadhg Boddy (0-3 each).

They led by the minimum at the break, 0-10 to 0-9.

Walsh and Brian Lynch put Cork ahead on the restart, but Dara Ferland’s goal restored Limerick’s lead.

Conor McCarthy and Zack Biggane had them back level soon after as the sides continued to trade scores.

Cork goalkeeper Oisín Walsh departed early through injury but their bench gave a boost with subs Jayden Casey and Ronan Dooley hitting the target.

They were level seven times but Dooley’s point, followed by a long-range Walsh free, gave Cork a lead they wouldn’t give up, with two more Walsh scores closing it out.

Meanwhile, Tipperary bowed out of the championship on a winning note as they sentenced Waterford to the wooden spoon.

This was a dead-rubber contest between two teams who had lost their opening three matches but the Premier youngsters showed they’re a step ahead of their southern rivals with an eight-point victory, sparked by Stefan Tobin’s early goal.

Waterford, going against the wind, pulled back a sweeper from the off but it didn’t stop Tipperary getting a fast start. Sam Rowan (0-3) and free-taker Robbie Ryan (0-6, 3f) got off the mark with two points each, while Leigh Loughnane had another after intercepting a puck-out.

The biggest score came from Tobin, the Tipp full-forward winning possession and getting on the wrong side of the Waterford defence to fire to the net.

A Jack Hayes point made it 1-6 to 0-3, but Waterford began to put the shackles on Tipp from there, holding them to two points in the remaining 18 minutes.

Seán Mackey worked hard to twice split the posts and he won two more frees for Colm Hartley to convert.

Midfielders Jamie Ormond and David Comerford traded points to close out the half at 1-8 to 0-7.

Tipperary had six points in a row, from Ryan (0-3), David Costigan, Tobin, and corner-back Jack Lahart, to stretch the gap, in which time Waterford struck seven wides in a row (they had 14 by the finish).

Hartley broke that unwanted run with a brace, but Tipp kicked for home with scores from Shane Buckley (0-2), Hayes, Ryan, Rowan, and Tobin.

Leon Lannon made a late save from Tobin while the latter's Waterford namesake, Conor Tobin, blasted 1-1 in the dying minutes, his 65th-minute goal set up by the run of David Comerford.
