All Ireland SHC Preliminary Quarter-Finals

Westmeath v Cork, TEG Cusack Park, 3pm

Cork's Munster Championship campaign started and finished with defeats, but in between the wins over Limerick and Waterford proved sufficient to reach the All Ireland series.

Ultimately that was the primary objective so Cork will be keen to deliver on the national stage under John Meyler.

A harrowing All Ireland semi-final defeat to Limerick hurt deeply, but valuable lessons were learned.

Returning to the 2019 summer with a deeper panel was Meyler's objective and that is something Cork have managed to do.

Boosted by Alan Cadogan's availability and Aidan Walsh's durability, Cork suddenly have options in attack.

Westmeath will be anxious to respond following a second successive Joe McDonagh Cup Final defeat.

There was plenty to admire in how Joe Quaid's charges gleaned the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A title.

The Joe McDonagh Cup, though, was the target so to be beaten in another Croke Park decider brought disappointment.

Killian Doyle's form, though, has been prolific throughout the campaign and it will be interesting to see how the in form forward fares in this encounter.

CORK: Anthony Nash, Stephen McDonnell, Eoin Cadogan, Niall O' Leary, Christopher Joyce, Mark Ellis, Mark Coleman, Bill Cooper, Tim O'Mahony, Conor Lehane, Darragh Fitzgibbon, Shane Kingston, Alan Cadogan, Patrick Horgan, Seamus Harnedy.

Laois v Dublin, O'Moore Park, 4.15pm

The reward for Dublin's Leinster Championship is a tricky trip to Portlaoise to face Joe McDonagh Cup winners Laois.

It has been a hugely encouraging stint for Eddie Brennan's charges, who remained unbeaten in that competitive tournament.

There was flickers of class in Sunday's final win over Westmeath with Mark Kavanagh prominent and Aaron Dunphy drilling a delightful goal.

Momentum has been generated so a decent Laois crowd is expected to gather for this test against Dublin.

Mattie Kenny's outfit produced when it really mattered at Parnell Park to defeat Galway.

That action packed evening confirmed the promise that exists in the Dublin panel.

Kenny has dealt adequately with injury setbacks throughout the year and a good panel has been constructed in the capital.

A date at GAA headquarters against Tipperary is the prize for the winners. It is an environment in which Laois and Dublin both want to operate in.

LAOIS: Enda Rowland; Lee Cleere, Matthew Whelan, Joe Phelan; Jack Kelly, Ryan Mullaney, Padraig Delaney; John Lennon, Paddy Purcell; Aaron Dunphy, Mark Kavanagh, Stephen Maher; Willie Dunphy, Cha Dwyer, Ross King.
