Waterford GAA has confirmed that Philip Mahony has retired from inter-county hurling.

The experienced Ballygunner clubman has been a key performer for the Deise during the past decade.

Mahony, who turns 29 on January 9, won a Munster title and an Allianz Hurling League medal with Waterford, while he was also an influential figure on the team which reached the 2017 All Ireland Final.

On Friday evening Waterford GAA confirmed that Mahony will not be involved for the 2020 campaign. "Philip Mahony has tonight announced his retirement from inter-county hurling," Waterford GAA tweeted.

"Waterford GAA would like to thank Philip for his commitment and dedication to Waterford hurling over the last number of years. We wish him all the best for the future."
